Glycogen

Glycogen is a long chain of glucose molecules stored in the liver and muscles.

What is Glycogen??

Glycogen is a stored energy that dogs’ bodies rely on when needed. It is made from glucose (sugar) and stored in the liver and muscles.

Why It's Important?

When a dog eats, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which can either be used immediately for energy or converted into glycogen later. When a dog runs, plays, or hasn’t eaten for a while, its body breaks down glycogen into glucose to keep energy levels up. This stored energy is vital for running and playing, giving dogs the quick fuel to stay active.

Additional info?

Glycogen can store about three times as much energy as fat does, but it requires more water to store.
