Coconut oil is a natural, plant-based fat extracted from the white flesh of mature coconuts harvested from the tropical coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). Long prized in both human and animal wellness traditions, this versatile oil is made up predominantly of saturated fats, particularly a group known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). These include lauric acid, caprylic acid, and capric acid, which are unique fatty acids metabolized differently than long-chain fats found in many animal and seed oils.
