Cavity

Cavities, also known as dental caries, are decayed areas in the teeth caused by bacterial action leading to the destruction of tooth enamel and underlying structures.

Occurrence of cavities ?

In dogs, cavities are relatively rare compared to humans. The structure of dogs' teeth differs from humans in several ways. Dogs' enamel is harder and less prone to decay compared to humans'. They have fewer grooves and pits on their teeth, reducing spaces for food and bacteria to accumulate and cause cavities. However, dogs can still experience decay or damage to their teeth due to factors such as poor dental hygiene, diets high in sugars or fermentable carbohydrates, and certain medical conditions.

Prevention of cavities?

Feeding your dog a fresh food diet establishes good oral health. Raw foods contain enzymes that help protect your dog's teeth and gums. Avoiding sugars or fermentable carbohydrates will decrease the chance of cavity formation.
