Honey

Honey is a natural sweet substance produced by honeybees from flower nectar. The bees collect nectar, which is then broken down into sugars, stored in honeycombs, and transformed into honey through evaporation. Honey is widely consumed as a sweetener and used in both culinary and medicinal applications due to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

Why we feed?

Honey can offer several health benefits for dogs when given in moderation. It contains natural sugars, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which can support a dog's overall health. Honey is excellent for environmental allergies! It contains bits of bee pollen, and as your dog ingests it, it helps them slowly get used to the pollens in the air. Honey is also an antibacterial and can be used as a topical solution for minor wounds or itchiness.

How to feed?

Due to its high sugar content, honey should be given in moderation. A teaspoon or less for small dogs and a tablespoon for larger dogs is generally recommended. Opt for raw, unprocessed honey, as it retains more natural nutrients and beneficial properties than processed honey. Honey should not be given to puppies or dogs with compromised immune systems, as it may contain botulinum spores that can cause illness in young or vulnerable animals.

Additional info?

Make sure it is raw local honey or Manuka Honey. Local honey/Manuka Honey will contain your area's pollen since bees don’t travel far from their hive and will have the most beneficial properties.
